Western Democracies Violated International Law According to Commission of Jurists According to the non-governmental International Commission of Jurists, who conducted a study over three years, UK and US violated international law on account of fighting terrorism. Moreover human rights were far more stable and effective before 9/11
The Commission said that the laws were already "well-equipped to handle current terror threats" and that some states used systematically "fear of terrorism" to justify measurements like bodily harm, enforced disappearance or detention without trial.
The chairman of the study said: "Many governments, ignoring the lessons of history, have allowed themselves to be rushed into hasty responses to terrorism that have undermined cherished values and violated human rights."
