New York: 24-year-old Frantz Cesar has been charged with assault after he allegedly threw a pit bull into a room containing five sleeping children. Cesar was reportedly drunk and angry with his wife when the incident occurred.

The dog seriously injured a three-year-old boy before Cesar intervened. According to his sister-in-law he laughed as he rescued the child.

The toddler is in a serious condition in hospital following surgery having had an ear torn off and his jaw ripped open by the dog. According to authorities the dog will probably be put to sleep.
