EU votes to accept ex-Guantanamo detainees for resettlement
Wednesday February 04 2009
The European parliament has voted in favour of accepting ex-Guantanamo detainees for resettlement.
It brings the prospect of Ireland taking in detainees one step closer, following the Justice Minister's pledge to consider the matter if it comes up as part of an EU-wide initiative.
The US is hoping European countries will take on the detainees as part of its plans to shut Guantanamo.
Labour Party MEP Proinsias De Rossa says we have a moral obligation to take in some detainees.
